Women's Basketball falls at UW-Stout

MENOMONIE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team fell short at UW-Stout, 60-59, on Saturday in Johnson Fieldhouse. 

The Blue Devils' Sami Schoeder made two free throws with 7.1 seconds left, giving UW-Stout the lead, 60-59. Head Coach Megan Wilson drew up a great play for the Pioneers to go the full length of the court in seven seconds, but the Pioneers fell just short from earning a last-second victory when junior Stacy Clark missed a semi-contested three-foot jumper as time expired. 

Clark led all scorers with 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for her sixth double-double on the year. Classmate Alyssa Krajco contributed 14 points, six rebounds and three assists. 

UW-Stouts' Kyleigh Hebert led the team with 12 points, followed by Hale Froehlich with 11 points off the bench. 

 The Blue Devils used a 10-2 run midway through the first half to take a 25-15 lead with 7:48 till intermission. The Pioneers stopped the run and responded by scoring six unanswered points, 25-21. UW-Stout managed to take 36-32 lead into the locker room. 

The Pioneers converted five offensive rebounds to seven points to UW-Stouts two points. The Blue Devils received solid production from their bench with 14 points. 

After Stout scored the first points of the second half, the Pioneers went on a 9-0, taking their first lead of the game, 41-38 with 16:22 to play. UW-Platteville secured its largest lead of the game of six points, 52-46, at the 8:30 mark. Stout answered with a 8-0 run with just under six minutes to play, regaining the lead, 54-52.  Krajco scored the Pioneers' final points of the game with 2:46 to go, and gave UW-Platteville a 59-56 lead. The Pioneers turned the ball over the next three trips down the floor as UW-Stout drew within one, 59-58. 

The Pioneers will look to rebound on Wednesday when they travel to UW-Eau Claire. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
