Pioneers combine to win 9 events at UW-Platteville Invitational

 PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams hosted 14 teams and more than 500 athletes at Saturday's UW-Platteville Invitational. 

The Pioneers took home nine wins and three second-places finishes on the way to a successful day against top-tier competition.

Women's Results

Amber Williams again was a key performer for the Pioneer women's team, as she placed highly in each of her events on the day. Williams won the triple jump with a bound of 11.65 meters (38-02.75), took second in the 200-meter dash (26.57) and took third in the 400-meter dash (1:01.09).

Williams' effort in the triple jump broke the school record and ranks her fourth in the nation in the event. She is now assured a trip to the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Alyssa Iserman also broke the school record and tied the Williams Fieldhouse in the high jump with a leap of 1.70 meters (5-07.00). Iserman is now tied for third in the nation and has locked up a spot at nationals as well.

Caitlin Thomson placed second in the high jump (1.67 meters / 5-05.75).

The 4x200-meter relay team of Krysta Parson, Carly Willman, Kelsey Reed and Jessica Jentz took first with a time of 1:47.62.

Parson also took second in the 60-meter dash, while Jentz took home fifth in the triple jump (10.17 meters / 33-04.50) and sixth in the long jump (15-10.25). 

Emily Kjos (5.10 meters / 16-08.75) took first in the long jump and fourth (9.88) in the 60-meter hurdles.

In the 800-meter run, Lynea Axelson placed first at 2:18.67, Chelsea Delzer took fourth at 2:27.31 and Mary-Katherine Kladar took sixth at 2:27.73. 

Andrea Knutson placed fourth in the 5000-meter run and was the anchor of the 4x400 relay (Olivia Bukowski, Ashlynne Wampfler, Rebecca Mathias, Knutson) that took fifth with a time of 4:28.23. 

Bukowski also placed third in the mile run at 5:32.87.

Kiera Depies finished third in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:59.30, while Kelly Provancher also placed third in the long jump (4.95 meters / 16-03.00).

Men's Results

In the 60-meter hurdles, T.J. Valley again took first place at 8.19 seconds, while Patrick Kessenich (8.44) finished fourth and Austin Lloyd (8.48) took fifth.  Kessenich also finished fourth in the 200-meter dash (22.68).

Joel Walden (15:22.84) placed first in the 5,000-meter run, while Derek Fahrenkrug (15:39.32) finished fifth.

In the 3,000-meter run, Ian LaMere captured first place with a time of 8:31.57, winning the race by just under 17 seconds. Matt Smaga (8:59.77) finished fifth.

Jason Henkins won the mile run with a time of 4:27.94, and the 4x200-meter relay team of Mitchell Dowell, Brandon Navin, Caleb Mertens and Brad Jurewicz finished first at 1:30.83.

Dowell also finished second in the 200-meter dash (22.58) and third in the 60-meter dash (7.06). Mertens took home fourth in the 60-meter dash (7.12) as well.  Jurewicz placed sixth in his other event, the 400-meter dash, with a time of 51.58.

Benjamin Rhode took home fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:00.23. 

The Pioneer 4x400-meter relay team of Cody Rudie, Adam Lange, Kyle Utecht and Sean Kirby took fourth (3:33.90), while the team of Rhode, Jacob Johnson, Harrison Miles and Matt Wubben took fifth (3:39.05).

In the high jump, Ace McCarty placed fourth with a jump of 1.95 meters (6-04.75). 

Garrett Riggs and Jared Bradfish tied for fourth in the pole vault, both clearing a height of 4.52 meters (14-10.00).
