Pioneer Women's Soccer Blanks Cardinals, 4-0

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- In a tale of two halves, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team scored all four of its goals in the second-half to shutout St. Mary's (Minn.), 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium. 

After a 0-0 game at halftime the Pioneers out shot the Cardinals 8-3 with 4-1 corner kick advantage. 

"We came out too sluggish in the first-half but we definitely turned up the tempo in the second-half," said head coach Allison Stringer. "We out possessed them but just needed to capitalize on our chances, and we did that in the second-half." 

In the 52nd-minute, senior Corey Daehling crossed a very good ball to sophomore Julie Divita, who delivered the first goal of the game from five yards out. 

Daehling blasted one from the left side 20 yards out to the far post to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead in the 54th-minute. 

Freshman Yamilex Jaramillo recorded her first collegiate goal in with just less than 18 minutes left in the game, assisted by Daehling, giving UW-Platteville a  

Senior Ashley Chernich added another one more for the Pioneers to make it a 4-0 game. 

Junior Jade Jandt and freshman Mandy Taylor split time in goal for the second straight game with Jadnt getting the start.

"We'll need to come out strong right from the get go on Wednesday night against Loras," said Stringer. 

The Pioneers return to the pitch on Wednesday when the take on 16th-ranked Loras at Pioneer Stadium.
