Pioneers wrestle at Luther Open

DECORAH, Iowa -- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team competed at the Luther Open Nov. 16, hosted by Luther College.

In the elite bracket, sophomore Mason Bohm (141 lbs.) picked up a pin in a first-round match against Wartburg's Braxton Chiccelly in 58 seconds.

In the freshman bracket, Aaric Spencer pinned Hannibal-LaGrange's Jacob Kaibel in 36 seconds, unattached wrestler Logan McQuillen in the third round and Dubuque's Layne Palm in the third round en route to a sixth-place finish.

Nationally ranked Division III teams at the Luther Open included No. 1 Wartburg College, No. 4 Luther College, No. 9 UW-Whitewater, No. 16 Loras College, No. 20 Cornell College. No. 25 University of Dubuque. No. 7 Upper Iowa University and No. 11 Minnesota State-Mankato are ranked in Division II, and Division I No. 4 University of Iowa also competed.

The Pioneers open the conference duel part of the schedule on Thursday at UW-Whitewater at 7 p.m.
