Cross Garners Second WIAC Player of the Week Honor in Three Weeks

MADISON, Wis. – For the second time in three weeks, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville junior center Chas Cross was named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week, by the league office on Wednesday.

Cross received his first Player of the Week honor of the season two weeks ago for his 16.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks average during a four-game stretch from Dec. 17-Jan. 6.

This past week, Cross averaged 21.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals, and shot 65.4 percent (17-26) from the field and was a perfect 2-2 from beyond the arc.  The Winnebago, Ill. native, scored a game-high 21 points and hauled in nine rebounds in a 65-60 loss at No. 7-ranked UW-Stevens Point on Jan. 16.  Cross recorded 16 of his 22 points and seven of his 12 rebounds in the second half to help earn his second double-double of the season in the Pioneers', 76-67, comeback victory at UW-Superior on Jan. 19.  He added a career-best five steals to go with three blocked shots against the Yellowjackets.

Cross has recorded 20 or more points in three of the last four games and scored in double-figures in eight of the last nine contests. He is averaging a team-high 14.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game.

Cross and the Pioneers host UW-River Falls on Saturday at 3 p.m. on Bo Ryan Court in Williams Fieldhouse for Alumni Day and the 6th annual Coaches vs. Cancer Wisconsin game.
