No. 15 UW-Stevens Point too much to handle for Women's Hoops, 71-49

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team fell to 15th-ranked UW-Stevens Point, 71-49, on Wednesday night in Williams Fieldhouse on Bo Ryan Court.

Junior Kim Wellnitz scored a game-high 13 points to lead the Pioneers, while freshman Kaitlyn Pleau added seven points. The Pointers' Sam Barber netted 12, followed by Myranda Tyler and Jenna Pitt with eight points each.

UW-Stevens Point dominated the paint in the first-half outscoring the Pioneers 22-8 in the paint which helped the Pointers take a 39-21 lead at halftime.  The second-half was very similar to the first as UWSP took its largest lead of the game, 61-31, with just under 10 minutes to play.  The Pioneers kept fighting and scored six unanswered, 37-61, with eight minutes to go, but the Pioneers deficit was too much to overcome as the UW-Stevens Point earned the 71-49 victory.

UW-Platteville travels to the other side of the state to UW-Superior on Saturday. Tip is set for 3 p.m. in Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium.
