The University of
Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team snapped a four-game losing
streak with a 7-4 non-conference win over Coe on Tuesday afternoon
at Kendall Murray Field.
The Pioneers (5-20) scored once in
the third and fourth, twice in the seventh and three in the fifth
in the win. Tyler Jacobson and
Cody Luther
each had two hits to lead an 11-hit attack. The Pioneers utilized
five pitchers in the win, including starter Bill Oppriecht, who
went the first three innings and allowed just one hit for the win.
UW-Platteville did not surrender any runs until the ninth
inning.
Coe (17-12) was held to just five
hits and utilized four pitchers in the mid-week encounter. AJ
Reuter, who was the second pitcher for the Kohawks, went 2 2/3
innings, scattering three hits and three runs - two earned to fall
to 0-1.
UW-Platteville got on the board in
the third on a RBI single by Topher Scheeler
and they added to their lead on a sacrifice fly by Levi Ney in the fourth
for a 2-0 lead. The Pioneers did a bulk of their damage in the
fifth inning, plating three runs on just one hit as they took
advantage of a dropped third strike by the Coe catcher. The offense
came back in the seventh, scoring twice on back-to-back RBI singles
by Trevor
Kattre and Luther.
Coe avoided the shutout in the
ninth, scoring four runs on three hits. Two of the runs came in on
a two-RBI double by Sean Raisch.
Next, the Pioneers take to the road
on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22 with a doubleheader each
day against UW-Superior at noon.
