The University of
Wisconsin-Platteville softball team saw its five-game winning
streak snapped on Wednesday in its final two games in Clermont,
Florida. The Pioneers dropped a 4-1 decision to Chicago and a 4-0
decision to Ramapo to fall to 5-3 on the season.
In the first game, UW-Platteville
behind in the top of the first by a 1-0 margin until Chantal
McReynolds tied it with her first homerun of the season to tie the
game.
Chicago scored three times in the
third, two of which came on a RBI single by Raechel Cloud. After
recording two hits in the first inning, the Pioneers were held to
just two hits in the final six innings in the loss.
Pioneer starter Jeni Freiburger saw
her record fall to 2-2 in the loss. In her first relief appearance,
Brittany Caley pitched the final three innings and surrendered just
one hit.
In the second game, Ramapo scored
two in the first and two more in the sixth for the 4-0 shutout win.
Offensively, the Pioneers were held to just two hits by Ramapo
starter Lauren Shaw. Kayla Gosdeck and Molly Rice each had a hit in
the defeat.
Pioneer starter Melissa Anderson
was the losing pitcher for the first time on the season. She gave
up nine hits, four runs - all earned and struck out four to fall to
3-1 on the season.
Next up for UW-Platteville is a
trip to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to wrap up Spring Break with a game
against Coe on Saturday at 11 a.m. and neutral site games against
Ripon on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m.
