Junior Steve Wolke had six
RBIs and three doubles in an 11-7 loss by the University of
Wisconsin-Platteville baseball to Franklin College in Franklin,
Indiana.
The six RBI by the Kenosha native
are just two shy of the school record and the most by a Pioneer
since a seven RBI effort by Jason Jacobson on April 2, 2010 vs.
Carroll. The loss drops UW-Platteville to 1-7 on the 2012 season.
Tyler
Jacobson and Levi
Ney each had two hits in the loss for the Pioneers.
Franklin (11-2) scored two runs in
each of the first three innings and added five more in the fifth
inning en route to the win. The Grizzlies outhit the Pioneers by a
15 to 10 margin in the series finale. Nick Stoia and Jesse Wilson
each had three leads in the win.
Trailing 6-0, UW-Platteville got
two of them back in the fourth on the first of three doubles by
Wolke. His three two-base hits ties the school record and becomes
only the eighth player in program history to achieve that feat.
After Cody
Luther singled and Levi Ney walked to start the inning, Wolke
drove the two in with a double to the gap in right center.
The Grizzlies added to their lead
in the sixth with five more runs to build a 11-2 advantage. The
Pioneers came back with three in the eighth - two of which came in
on a second two-RBI double by Wolke and two more in the ninth on
the final two-RBI double by the Pioneer designated hitter.
Next, UW-Platteville will host
Loras on Tuesday, Mar. 20 at 4 pm at Kendall Murray Field in its
home opener.
