A 20-5 run midway through the first
half led host UW-Superior to a 69-50 win over the University of
Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team.
The Yellow Jackets (9-5, 3-3 WIAC)
were able to land three players in double figures including Bri
Davis, who nearly had a double double with a 15 points and a
game-high nine rebounds to lead UW-Superior. She was joined in
double digits by Hailey Hart and Sally Linzmeier, who had 16 and 14
points, respectively.
The Pioneers (6-9, 2-4 WIAC) was
led by junior Claire Poad, who had 13 points to lead
UW-Platteville.
When Poad made a jumper at the
11:45 mark, in the first half, the Pioneers had cut the UW-Superior
lead to 13-10. The Yellow Jackets answered the basketball by
scoring 20 of the next 25 points over the next seven minutes to
break the contest wide open. During that stretch, the home team
missed just four shots to take control of the contest.
UW-Platteville scored 10 of the
final 12 points of the opening half to cut the deficit to 12,
39-27, at the halftime break. Sparking the Pioneers was senior
Ashley Mulholland who accounted for eight of the 10 with two 3
pointers. However, the Yellow Jackets answered the UW-Platteville
spurt to start the second half with 16 of the first 18 points in
the final 20 minutes.
The Pioneers will look to bounce
back and return to its winning ways when they host UW-Whitewater on
Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. at Bo Ryan Court.
