The University of Wisconsin-Platteville surrendered two goals in each half en route to a 4-0 loss to visiting Dubuque on Wednesday night at Pioneer Stadium.
The Pioneers (3-2) managed to outshoot the Spartans by a 20 to 15 margin in the loss. Sarah Eck and Corey Daehling led the attack for UW-Platteville with six and five shots, respectively.
Dubuque (4-2) went ahead in the 15th minute when Elizabeth Frazier scored on a 25-yard free kick after a UW-Platteville foul. Frazier was involved in the second goal of the night when Kelsey Graefen scored on a corner kick in the 24th minute to stretch the lead to 2-0.
UW-Platteville started the second half with four-straight shots that were saved by UD goalkeeper Jamie Strobel in the first three minutes of the final 45 minutes. The Pioneers added another opportunity in the 54th minute when a Daehling shot hit the crossbar.
The Spartans added to their lead in the 59th minute when Alexandra Watkins converted on a give and go reception pass from Megan Sipler to the lower left of the goal to extend the lead to 3-0. Late in the game, in the 85th minute, Megan Strawn scored the final goal of the night for the final margin.
The Pioneers will look to snap its two-game losing skid when they face St. Norbert on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in Dubuque.
