Pioneers Drop 2-0 Decision in Season Finale

University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point scored two second half goals to snag the final spot in the upcoming WIAC Tournament over host University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Saturday night.

With the final spot in the tournament on the line, the two teams battled back and forth throughout the match. After a scoreless first 45 minutes, the Pioneers had dominated possession for most of the half.

UW-Stevens Point (10-7, 4-4 WIAC) ended the scoreless tie when Sarah Vitale took a crossing shot to the lower right of the goal in the 77th minute for a 1-0 advantage.

An attempt by the Pioneers to equalize came about when Sarah Eck sent a pass to an open Anna Strasser that fired a shot that sailed high. It was the fourth shot of the contest that went high for UW-Platteville.

The Pointers added an insurance goal in the 79th minute on a bending shot by Sammy Greer for the final margin. UW-Stevens Point goalkeeper Brittany Marx made six saves for her fourth shutout of the season.

At halftime of the game, UW-Platteville recognized seniors - Jackie Baumgart, Karen Bublitz, Caitlin Freeman and Jessie Goodwin.
