Dubuque, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin – Platteville track and field team competed at an impromptu outdoor meet hosted by Loras College on Tuesday, April 16. The Loras Easter Mid-Week meet was organized to provide athletes an opportunity to compete without the pending winds expected during the coming days.
Stealing the show on Tuesday, Noah Steiner broke the school record in the outdoor high jump event. Steiner cleared 2.10m (6-10.75). Steiner previously held the record tied with Dan Jansen of 2.09m (6-10.25). Jansen has held the record since 1989. Freshman Bryce Bierman jumped 1.92m (6-3.5) establishing a new personal best for the outdoor season.
Finishing in sixth place in the 800m, Jason Voelker ran a personal best 2:00.58. Coming in seventh place, Alex Wittmershaus clocked 2:00.91. Jarod Baker finished in 2:01.38 for tenth place. Ben Claas ran 4:20.97 in the 1500m, and Nick Hein finished with a personal best time of 4:23.71.
In the women's 800m, junior Caitlyn Ifft ran for second place in 2:24.22. Kirstie Ramsey ran a personal best in the 1500m, crossing in 5:11.74 for sixth place. Danielle Nelson also ran a personal best, clocking 5:12.68.
Brittany Ehlen won the women's pole vault, clearing 3.45m (11-3.75). In men's pole vault, Greg Vogt and Jack Soda tied for first place with a vault of 4.15m (13-7.25). Quin Tydrich cleared 4.00m (13-1.5) to tie for fourth place.
Antgentina Bean jumped a lifetime best in the long jump, marking 5.23m (17-2).
Cole Eastlick finished in fourth place in shot put, throwing 14.30m (46-11). Eastlick took third in discus tossing 42.65m (139-11) and third place in hammer throw with a throw of 48.78m (160-0). Alexander Walechka threw for second place in the discus, marking 44.51m (146-0), and threw 41.43m (135-11) in the hammer throw.
The men's and women's track and field team returned to competition later in the week, with the women competing on Thursday and the men's team competing on Friday at Augustana College.
