MENOMONIE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team (20-12, 5-3 WIAC) split with UW-Stout (18-16, 4-6 WIAC) Sunday afternoon from Alumni Field, taking game two 3-1 after falling 5-1 in the opener.
The Pioneers outhit the Blue Devils 20-14 across both games with junior
Allison Peters finishing 6-for-8 on the day.
Game One
The Pioneers scored early with a first inning RBI single from freshman
Tessa Britt, but the Blue Devils tied the game in the third frame and went on to score five unanswered runs before the final out of the game.
Game Two
UW-Platteville struck first in the second game, this time posting two runs in the second frame behind a two-RBI single from freshman
Delila Liston. Britt then drove in an insurance run off a single up the middle in the top of the fifth, giving the Pioneers a 3-0 lead.
UW-Platteville kept the Blue Devils off the board until the seventh inning. With one out on the board, UW-Stout scored one run and had the tying runs sitting on second and third base, but a ground out to third base and line out to short stop preserved the victory for the Pioneers.
Freshman
Nora Buske (W, 8-2) pitched a complete game where she struck out three, walked five and allowed just three hits.
The Pioneers will return to action on Wednesday, April 29 when they host UW-Whitewater for a WIAC doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
