LA CROSSE, Wis. – A school record in the men's 4x400m relay highlighted the University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field team's performance at the UW-La Crosse Eagle Open on Friday evening inside Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse.
Men's Highlights
The Pioneers 4x400m relay team of Spencer Vanek, Owen Wise, James Ketterer, and Zach Zenner shattered their own school record from earlier this season with a time of 3:11.70 to place fourth. The group had broken the school record at the Drake Relays a couple weeks ago with a time of 3:13.04 but cut over a second off today.
Junior Joshua Stone won the 800m, posting a strong time of 1:53.68. Junior Elijah Wade was just over a second behind to finish fourth in 1:54.87.
Junior McKade Jelinek set a new personal-best in the discus, reaching a mark of 53.42m on his third attempt of the day to place runner-up in the event. The distance moves Jelinek up to third all-time on the Pioneers top 10 list.
The 4x100m relay team of Gannon Mohr, Alex Geissler, Kaden Piecchocki, and Haddon Borroughs placed fourth while running a time of 43.31 seconds.
Junior Korbin Eisler ran a time of 15:16.32 in the 5000m run, which was good for sixth. In the same event, sophomore Maxwell Sporaa came in ninth at 15:29.69.
In the javelin, senior Sam LaPean finished eighth overall while throwing a personal-best mark of 51.22m. Freshman Max Schneider took ninth in the event with a mark of 48.16m.
Women's Highlights
Junior Izzy Peterson was the top finisher in the 200m, winning the event behind a time of 24.41 seconds.
The quartet of Kayla Lipsey, Elianna Dalamangas, Madison Ahrens, and Izzy Peterson posted a very strong time in the 4x100m relay of 46.95 seconds. The time was less than a tenth of second shy of their school record from earlier this season and was good for third at the meet.
Sophomore Hailey Campbell tied for fifth in the high jump, reaching a height of 1.59m.
Junior Avery Brown placed seventh in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing in a time of 11:59.41.
