Jelinek's All-American Performance Highlights Strong First Day Of NCAA Championships

GENEVA, Ohio – On a rainy first day of the 2025 NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams posted several strong results, highlighted by All-American honors in the discus by junior McKade Jelinek. Two other Pioneers, junior Caden Schneider and Izzy Peterson, will advance to the finals in their respective running events later this week.

For the second consecutive year, junior McKade Jelinek took home All-American honors in the discus with his fourth-place finish on Thursday. Jelinek's top distance improved on each of his first five throws, with his fifth attempt reaching 51.24m (168' 1") to help him jump up a couple spots. UW-Platteville has now had an All-American in the discus for five straight outdoor championships, and Jelinek's fourth-place standing is the Pioneers best in the event since Ben Veverka's third-place finish in 2021.

Junior Caden Schneider broke his own school record in the 3000m steeplechase and will compete in the finals of the event tomorrow at 3:40 p.m. He finished in 8:52.70, shaving over half a second off his previous record to place second overall in the preliminaries. Schneider came into the championships with the 10th-best time in the event, but climbed up to second entering the finals.

Junior Izzy Peterson will advance to Saturday's finals in the 200m after an eighth-place finish in the prelims of the event. Finishing third in the opening heat, Peterson ran a time of 24.35 seconds, earning one of the nine spots to the finals in the event on Saturday at 2:50 p.m. After entering the championships with the 20th-best time in the 200m, Peterson jumped up 12 spots with her strong time.
