OSHKOSH, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams opened competition at the 2025 WIAC Outdoor Championships (presented by Culver's) hosted by UW-Oshkosh on Friday afternoon from the Oshkosh Sports Complex.
Men's Highlights
Junior Caden Schneider broke his own school record in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing in 8:53.33 to place fifth overall in the event. He outpaced his previous record time from last year of 8:57.92 by over four seconds.
Senior Samuel LaPean scored in the javelin, with his 49.71m throw on his third attempt good enough for sixth in the event.
Sophomore Zachary Sporaa claimed seventh place in the 10k race behind a time of 30:31.64. The time was an over 30 second personal best for Sporaa and places him seventh on the UW-Platteville Top Ten list.
Seniors Zach Zenner and Spencer Vanek each advanced to tomorrow's final in the 400m after strong prelim times. Zenner placed sixth in the prelims at 48.33 seconds while Vanek took ninth at 48.66 seconds.
Junior Joshua Stone was the runner-up in the prelims in the 800m, and he posted a new personal-best time of 1:54.35 in the process.
Women's Highlights
Junior Izzy Peterson qualified for Saturday's 100m finals after a fourth-place finish in the prelims. Her time of 12.04 seconds was the second-best time in the opening heat of the preliminary rounds. Peterson will also run in the 200m finals tomorrow following a third-place finish of 24.51 seconds in the event prelims.
Senior Hannah Fliss placed seventh in the 10k, finishing with a time of 37:41.23. In the same event, freshman Caitlin Wirth narrowly missed a podium finish by taking ninth at 38:43.46.
Senior Madison Ahrens took 10th overall in the javelin throw, setting a new personal-best mark of 33.23m on her opening attempt.
