ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – With just a week remaining until the NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams sent a group of athletes to the two-day Augustana Last Chance meet on Wednesday and Thursday at the Austin E. Knowlton Outdoor Athletic Complex in Rock Island, Illinois.
Men's Highlights
The men's 4x400m relay team of Spencer Vanek, Owen Wise, James Ketterer, and Zach Zenner ran a time of 3:12.05 to place seventh overall in the event.
Junior McKade Jelinek competed in the invite discus, taking eighth with his best throw finishing at 31.68m. Jelinek still remains towards the top of the NCAA DIII leaderboards in the event, with his mark of 53.42m last week at the UW-La Crosse Eagle Open currently third on the performance list.
In the collegiate shot put, sophomore Cohen Pfohl finished ninth with a mark of 15.81m on his first throw of the day. Senior Nicholas Walechka took 11th in the same event with a best toss of 15.04m.
Women's Highlights
Junior Izzy Peterson broke her own school record in the 200m, finishing second overall in the event in 24.25 seconds. Peterson had recently reset the record in the 200m at the WIAC Outdoor Championships but knocked off .04 seconds from that time on Wednesday evening. The time is currently ranked 20th on the DIII performance list.
Senior Brenna Noon finished eighth overall in the invite portion of the shot put, reaching 13.42m on her final attempt on Thursday. Noon's best throw of 14.00m this outdoor season came back in early April at the UW-Platteville Invitational, which sits 14th in NCAA DIII.
