Pioneers Set School Record At Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams had 12 student-athletes compete at the 115th annual Drake Relays on Friday, with the men's 4x400m relay team setting a new school record from Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.

The men's 4x400m relay team of senior Spencer Vanek, freshman Owen Wise, junior James Ketterer, and senior Zach Zenner set a new UW-Platteville school record and advanced to tomorrow's finals in the event. The quartet finished fifth in the prelims while running a time of 3:13.04, which broke the previous record of 3:13.27 set back in 2016.

In the women's 4x100m relay prelims, freshman Haley Stannard, sophomore Elianna Dalamangas, senior Madison Ahrens, and junior Izzy Peterson narrowly missed qualifying for tomorrow's final, placing 10th overall out of 29 teams with a time of 47.62 seconds.

Junior McKade Jelinek competed in the men's discus amongst a strong field that featured several Division I athletes. With his best throw of 48.40m on his second attempt, Jelinek finished 18th overall.

The Pioneers competed in the women's sprint medley as well, with senior Kayla Lipsey, Ahrens, senior Margaret Rusch, and junior Leah Digmann each participating. The team finished ninth overall, posting a time of 4:13.65.

UW-Platteville's men's 4x400m relay team will compete in tomorrow's finals at 4:30 p.m. at the Drake Relays.
