WHITEWATER, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams competed at the Drake Alternative meet hosted by UW-Whitewater on Thursday. The Pioneers men's and women's teams combined for six individual event wins from the Rex Foster Track in Whitewater.
Men's Highlights
Senior Daniel Inyang took home the top spot in the high jump, reaching a height of 1.94m on his second attempt on the bar. Later in the day, Inyang finished sixth in the 100m finals behind a time of 11.24 seconds. Also in the high jump, senior Kaden Piechocki finished sixth at 1.89m.
Sophomore Trevor Schulz was the winner in the pole vault at 4.32m. Freshman Brandyn Beahm was the runner-up after reaching the 4.32m bar on his second attempt, while seniors Evan Klinkner (4.17m) and Kyle Lang (4.02m) took fifth and sixth, respectively.
Junior Christopher Wier won the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:07.11. Freshman Mason Paar placed third in the event, with a personal-best time of 10:12.48.
Sophomore Andrew Zimmerman ran a personal best time of 49.53 seconds in the 400m to win the event. Junior Evan Graves placed second in the same event just behind in 49.69 seconds.
Sophomore Colby Stotler won the shot put, with a toss of 15.45m. Sophomore Cohen Pfohl placed third in the same event at 15.24m, while freshman Daniel Wenger was fifth with a PR mark 14.84m.
Sophomore Spencer Thiry posted a PR time of 3:58.99 in the 1500m run to place second. He was one of just three runners in the event to run a sub-four minute time.
UW-Platteville had three qualify for the 110m hurdle finals, with freshman Cal Wrasman leading the group with third-place finish in the finals at 15.61 seconds. Sophomore Connor Vierck ran a season-best time of 15.82 seconds for fifth, while sophomore Ryan Owens was seventh at 16.11 seconds. In the 400mH, sophomore Ryan Owens finished sixth with a season-best time of 58.70 seconds.
The 4x400m relay team of Haddon Burroughs, Logan Pasakarnis, Ethan Schneider, and Cody Nichols ran a time of 3:30.71 to finish third.
Junior Elijah Wade put together a personal-best time of 1:56.14 in the 800m to finish third overall.
Four Pioneers finished inside the top eight in the javelin, led by senior Samuel LaPean's fourth-place finish at 49.42m. Junior Parker Douglas placed fifth with a throw of 46.57m, while freshmen Isaiah Groskopf (44.07m) and Max Schneider (44.05m) finished seventh and eighth, respectively.
Sophomore Tyler Kasap took fourth in the discus, setting a new personal-best mark of 47.31m in the process. Freshman Wyatt Klitzman placed sixth in the triple jump at 12.78m.
Women's Highlights
Sophomore Hailey Campbell reached an outdoor season-best mark of 1.65m in the high jump, which proved to be good enough to win the event.
In the 1500m, sophomore Megan Hageman recorded a new personal best of 4:49.80 to place second in the event. Sophomore Kendra Downing also set a new PR in the 1500m with her eighth-place finish in 5:05.48.
UW-Platteville's 4x100m relay team of Shannon Wulf, Skyler McIlvried, Kianna Severson, and Caitlynn Hahn finished third out of seven teams with a time of 49.71 seconds.
Sophomore Evelyn Troxel came in third in the pole vault, reaching a mark of 3.16m.
Junior Malina Koepp was the Pioneers top finisher in the triple jump, posting a season-best mark of 10.16m to take fourth. Senior Lizzie Andrews was right behind for fifth at 10.14m.
Sophomore Danielle Mauhar placed sixth in the 110m finals with a time of 15.84 seconds. In the 100m finals, McIlvried also finished sixth at 12.94 seconds. Freshman Josephine Yurs ran a time of 58.90 seconds in the 400m to place third overall.
Junior Samantha Klann set a new PR in the discus at 40.20m, which was good enough to place sixth in the event. She added another personal-best in the hammer throw at 46.74m, taking sixth in that event as well. Senior Brenna Noon was the Pioneers top finisher in the shot put, finishing fourth with a throw of 12.98m.
