Pioneers Set Several PRs At Meet Of Champions

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams competed at the two-day Augustana (Ill.) Meet of Champions on Thursday and Friday, with several Pioneers recording new personal best times at the meet.

Men's Highlights

Junior McKade Jelinek was the winner in the discus throw, reaching a mark of 51.19m. That distance currently ranks sixth in NCAA DIII.

Junior Joshua Stone was the runner-up in the 800m, posting a time of 1:54.50, which was good for a new personal best. Senior Zach Zenner finished fourth overall in the 400m, running a time of 48.86 seconds.

The Pioneers 4x400m relay team of Spencer Vanek, James Ketterer, Owen Wise, and Zenner finished second, recording a season-best time of 3:16.13 and finishing eight hundredths of a second behind the top time.

Sophomore Trevor Schulz and freshman Brandyn Beahm finished back-to-back in the pole vault, each reaching a mark of 4.57m. Schulz took third in the event, followed by Beahm's fourth-place finish.

In the shot put, sophomore Cohen Pfohl was the Pioneers top finisher at 15.95m, which was good for third. Sophomore Colby Stotler came in sixth with a toss of 15.31m.

Junior James Ketterer placed fifth in the triple jump in a very competitive field. His mark of 14.23m ranks inside the top 20 in NCAA DIII.

UW-Platteville had a pair of top six finishers in the 1500m, with sophomore Zachary Sporaa taking fourth at 3:57.90. Senior Elijah Wade was close behind for sixth at 3:58.66.

Senior Korbin Eisler set a new PR in the 10K, finishing sixth in the event while running a time of 31:54.45.

Senior Dale Yerges finished seventh in the decathlon, scoring a total of 5783 points. He recorded a pair of personal-bests in the 1500m (4:49.04) and javelin (36.94m), which tallying season-best marks in the 100m, 400m, discus, and long jump.

Women's Highlights

Junior Izzy Peterson placed third in the 100m, posting a very strong time of 11.98 seconds. That time places her inside the top 20 in NCAA DIII in the event. Peterson put together another third place finish in the 200m, running another DIII top 20 time of 24.72 seconds.

The Pioneers 4x100m relay team of Haley Stannard, Elianna Dalamangas, Madison Ahrens, and Peterson won the event with a time of 46.86 seconds. That time is currently the 10th best time in NCAA DIII.

Freshman Caitlin Wirth was the winner in the 10K with a time of 39:41.12. Freshman Elsa Temples took second in the event at 42:43.57 while senior Lydia Oakleaf came in fourth at 47:53.21.

Senior Brenna Noon was the runner-up in the shot put, reaching her top distance of 13.24m on her third attempt of the day.

Junior Avery Brown set a new PR in the 3000m steeplechase, taking third overall with a time of 12:00.59.

A pair of Pioneers finished inside the top eight in the 400m, led by freshman Josephine Yur's personal-best time of 58.83 seconds. Senior Madison Ahrens ran a time of 1:00.44 to place eighth overall.

Sophomore Megan Hageman was the team's top finisher in the 1500m, placing third behind a time of 4:50.80. Senior Hannah Fliss recorded a PR in the same event, finishing sixth in 4:55.02.

The Pioneers will compete at a pair of meets next Friday, with some athletes heading to the Drake Relays on Friday in Des Moines, Iowa, and others competing at the Drake Alternative in Whitewater.
