Pioneer Throws Team Competes At Mid-Week Meet

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams sent a group of throws athletes to the Loras Easter Mid-Week Meet on Tuesday afternoon from the Finnegan Family Track in Dubuque.

Men's Highlights

Senior Samuel LaPean won the javelin throw, reaching his best distance of 48.84m on his second attempt of the afternoon. Four other Pioneers finished inside the top eight in the same event, with junior Parker Douglas (44.93m), freshman Max Schneider (43.54m) and freshman Isaiah Groskopf (42.42) placing third through fifth, respectively. Freshman Wyatt Klitzman rounded out the group by taking eighth at 37.34m.

LaPean also competed in the hammer throw, placing 14th with a toss of 38.53m.

Women's Highlights

In the women's javelin, sophomore Mary Lyons posting a mark of 33.12m, which was good for second at the meet. Senior Madison Ahrens followed right behind at 32.23m to take third in the event.

Sophomore Laura Weaver competed in a pair of events, taking ninth in the hammer throw (38.58m) and 14th in the discus (30.30m). Freshman Layla Vengrowsky also competed in two throwing events, finishing 11th in the shot put (8.52m) and 14th in the hammer (30.10m).

Up Next

The Pioneers travel to the Augustana Meet of Champions later this week in Rock Island, Illinois. The two-day meet begins on Thursday.
