Pioneers Drop WIAC Dual at No. 5 UW-Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team fell 49-3 Friday night to fifth-ranked UW-Eau Claire in the Sonnentag Event Center. Competing in their final dual of the season, the Pioneers finish 1-7 including 1-4 in the WIAC while the Blugolds finish 17-1 and 4-1 in the league. 

The match started at 184 pounds and UW-Platteville had its work cut out for it as the team started down 12-0 after forfeiting two classes. Senior David Cushman was the first Pioneer to go the distance on Friday night, dropping the 157-pound match by 18-12 decision. With two weight classes remaining, junior Blake Delsman put the Pioneers on the board when he won a thrilling 165-pound match by 4-3 decision. 

UW-Platteville will stay in Eau Claire and compete tomorrow, February 8 at the Blugolds Don Parker Open. Wrestling starts at 10 a.m.

184: Tristan Drier (UWEC) wins by forfeit. 

197: Ian Pepple (UWEC) def. Kain Killmer (UWP) by fall in 2:40.
