PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Three University of Wisconsin-Platteville athletic teams will compete this week, with all three heading on the road. Men's basketball plays a pair of games away from home, while wrestling takes on two road conference duals. Women's basketball travels to Milwaukee on Saturday for face Wisconsin Lutheran.
Men's Basketball Plays Twice on the Road
Coming off a win on Saturday, the Pioneers men's basketball team will travel for a pair of road games this week, starting on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against Carthage. UW-Platteville then face Hope in Holland, Michigan on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Firebirds bounced back after a loss with an 81-76 home win over Carroll this past Saturday. Riley Brooks leads the team with 18.6 points per game, while Ryan Johnson is averaging a 13.2-point, 11.0-rebound double-double across his six games played. Carthage sits at 4-3 overall on the season.
The Flying Dutchmen have won three straight games to improve to 4-2 overall. Marcus Wourman is the team's leading scorer with 14.7 points per game, while Parker Hovey is second with 13.3 points and a team-high 8.2 rebounds per game.
Wrestling Competes at Two WIAC Duals
The Pioneers wrestling team will compete against a pair of conference opponents this week, with a 7 p.m. dual on Wednesday night at UW-Stevens Point up first. UW-Platteville then duals UW-Whitewater on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
The Pointers are 1-1 in duals this season with a loss to UW-Whitewater and win over UW-Oshkosh. In the recent win over the Titans, Deakin Trotzer won by fall, while Luca Paladino and Riese Thornberry each claimed victory by tech fall.
The Warhawks are 2-6 in duals on the year, but 2-1 in WIAC competition. UW-Whitewater is still ranked No. 6 in the most recent NWCA poll, and feature several ranked wrestlers, including No. 3 Brayden Peet at 165 pounds and No. 4 Dominik Mallinder at 149 pounds.
Women's Basketball Travels Saturday
After improving to 7-1 this past weekend, the Pioneers women's basketball team will travel to Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. for their lone game this week.
The Warriors are 6-1 on the season and are coming off back-to-back wins over Aurora and Lakeland. Margie Stevens (15.1 points per game) leads four players averaging double-digits, while Abby Cole sits at 13.9 points and 8.1 points per game.
