PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team (0-3) fell 24-15 Friday night to the University of Dubuque (2-0) inside Williams Fieldhouse. As part of the Headlocking Hunger dual, 1754 non-perishable items were donated at the event for the Pioneer Provisions pantry.
After the Spartans scored first, the Pioneers grabbed three wins in a row to take the lead. Freshman
Ethan Monson captured the first points in the 133-match with a 7-3 decision.
Owen Becker then cruised to a cool five team points with a 20-2 tech. fall (4:37) at 141 pounds.
Junior
Trent DuMont picked up a 6-2 decision at 149 pounds to extend the Pioneers lead to 11-6, but Dubuque then went on a run of their own, capturing the next four matches to regain the lead. The Spartans held on to the lead for the remainder of the night, but sophomore
Kain Killmer narrowed that lead in the 197-bout with a 15-0 tech. fall victory after two periods of wrestling.
The Pioneers will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 10 when they travel to UW-Stevens Point for a conference dual at 7 p.m.
