WHITEWATER, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team was shutout 45-0 by No. 10 nationally ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Thursday night in Kachel Gymnasium.
The Pioneers had six wrestlers go the distance, including junior Ryan Pothoof who dropped a tight 7-6 decision to Ryan Riser in the 174 match. Senior Marty Koenig and Gavin Kohel took a 0-0 scoreboard into the second period of the 184 match. Although Kohel won by a 9-4 decision, the Warhawk's lead was nearly wiped clear late in the third period as Koenig fought to pin his opponent before the action moved outside of the circle.
The Pioneers return to action this weekend when they travel to Eau Claire for the Don Parker Open on Saturday, February 3.
