Pioneers Post Strong Marks At Final Qualifier Meets

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams sent several members to the Augustana Midwest Twilight meet on Thursday afternoon in Rock Island, Illinois to try and improve upon their season marks prior to the NCAA Outdoor Championships next weekend. The Pioneers also had a couple athletes travel to UW-La Crosse for its Final Qualifier meet as well.

Men's Highlights

Senior Justin Eichler posted a new personal best in the discus by over two meters to finish third in the event. Eichler's mark of 53.60m (175' 10") currently moves him inside the top five on the NCAA Division III List.

In the same event, senior Ben Veverka also posted a new PR at 53.50m (175' 6") to finish fourth overall. Freshman McKade Jelinek placed sixth in the discus with a toss of 53.03m (173' 11"). Freshman Beau Kopp also competed in the discus, finishing 22nd with a throw of 45.00m (147' 7").

Senior Cole Stugelmeyer took 13th in the 110m hurdles behind a time of 15.14 seconds. Stugelmeyer also ran the 400m hurdles and finished 21st with a time of 1:00.04.

In the long jump, sophomore Julian Samuels placed 15th with a leap of 6.39m (20' 11.75").

Junior Daniel Inyang was one of three Pioneers to compete at the UW-La Crosse Final Qualifier meet on Thursday afternoon and he posted a new personal-best in the high jump. Inyang won the event with a jump of 2.03m (6' 8"), surpassing his prior best set on April 7.

Women's Highlights

Sophomore Brenna Noon competed in the shot put and took sixth with a mark of 13.35m (43' 9.75").

Senior Paulina Wienke placed 10th in the hammer throw with a throw of 48.04m (157' 7").

At the UW-La Crosse Final Qualifier, senior Kaitlyn Galgon finished eighth in the 800m. She posted a time of 2:16.54 in the event.

Qualifiers will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Regionals in Rochester, New York later next weekend. The three-day meet begins on Thursday and concludes on Saturday.
