Pioneers Compete At Eagle Open Friday

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams competed at the Eagle Open on Friday afternoon hosted by UW-La Crosse at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Men's Highlights

Sophomore Jakob Eggen won the 5000m behind a time of 15:11.95, shaving over 30 seconds off his previous personal best in the process. Freshman Isaiah Kruckman finished sixth in the same event with a time of 16:04.28.

Junior Daniel Inyang had a strong showing in the high jump as he tied for first in the event at 2.00m. In the long jump, sophomore Julian Samuels set a new PR with a leap of 7.10m on his third attempt of the day.

Freshman McKade Jelinek placed second in the discus throw at 46.00m while senior Justin Eichler (43.15m) and freshman Beau Kopp (43.03m) placed eighth and ninth. Eichler needed just one throw in the hammer to finish fifth at 53.73m.

Sophomore Sam LaPean won the javelin with a toss of 44.66m.

Senior Cole Stugelmeyer claimed third place in the 110m hurdles, running 15.14 seconds.

Sophomore Elijah Wade finished third in the 800m, tallying a new PR of 1:57.01. Freshman Joshua Stone also set a new personal best in the 800m at 2:02.60 for eighth.

In the 400m, sophomore Zach Zenner took seventh at 49.38 seconds, just a tenth of a second shy of a personal best.

Sophomore Dale Yerges posted a new PR in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.24 seconds to finish ninth in the event.

Women's Highlights

Sophomore Brynlee Nelson finished third overall in the 400m, posting a time of 59.46 seconds. Sophomore Margaret Rusch set a new PR in the same event with a time of 1:00.28. Nelson also competed in the 200m, taking seventh with a PR time of 26.52 seconds. Senior Grace Guetschow was close behind for eighth in the 200m at 26.83 seconds.

Senior Kaitlyn Galgon crossed the line at 2:17.40 in the 800m to finish runner-up in the 800m.

Freshman Ella Mackiewicz recorded a new personal best in the high jump at 1.59m to claim fourth place.

In the hammer throw, senior Paulina Wienke finished sixth with a toss of 48.36m. Sophomore Brenna Noon took third in the shot put at 13.83m.

 

The Pioneers head to the Augustana Last Chance meet in Rock Island, Illinois next Thursday. Events begin at 1 p.m.
