Pioneers Compete At Good Friday Open

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams competed at the Good Friday Open hosted by Dubuque. The Pioneer men finished second with 216.5 points while the women came in third with 134 points.

Men's Highlights

Two Pioneers scored in the 100m, with senior Cade VanHout winning the event at 10.66 seconds. Sophomore Derrick Turner came in fifth at 10.85 seconds.

In the 200m, sophomores Spencer Vanek (22.14 seconds), Derrick Turner (22.25), and Zach Zenner (22.39) were consecutive finishers, placing fourth through sixth, respectively. Zenner also won the 400m, running a personal-best time of 49.25 seconds.

Senior Troy Humpal won the 3000m run with a time of 8:52.45. Freshman Caden Schneider placed second at 8:52.94 while sophomore Jakob Eggen ran a PR of 9:00.25 for third. Junior Xavier Lasee also ran a personal-best in the event at 9:07.66 for fourth.

Junior Davin Dahl ran a personal best in the 3000 Steeplechase to win at 10:03.32. Senior Dane Jankiewicz took third at 10:31.11.

Senior Cole Stugelmeyer finished third in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.85 seconds.

Freshman Tyler Doering was among five Pioneers to score in the 800m, placing second with a mark of 2:01.14. Senior Jason Voelker (2:01.50) and freshman Paul Treiber (2:01.98) were close behind for third and fourth, while freshman Gabriel Coleman (2:03.52) and senior Zach Flitsch (2:03.55) took sixth and seventh.

Sophomore Elijah Wade led four that scored in the 1500m with a second-place finish at a personal-best time of 4:08.24. Junior Joey Madsen (personal-best 4:09.72) and senior Caleb Christiansen (4:10.92) took third and fourth in the event.

In the field events, junior Daniel Inyang set a new personal best in the high jump to win the event at 2.02m. Freshman Gavin Ralph came in sixth with a mark of 1.87m. Freshman Gunner Katzenmeyer placed third in the pole vault with a leap of 3.95m. In the long jump, sophomore Julian Samuels finished second in his first collegiate jump at 7.08m. Junior Weston Pink came in third in the triple jump at 13.72m.

Freshman McKade Jelinek won the discus with an impressive throw of 53.19m. The mark moves him to third in program history in the event. Senior Ben Veverka had a strong day in the throws events, placing second in the discus (51.09m) and third in the shot put (15.15m). Senior Justin Eichler took second in the hammer throw at 56.97m and third in the discus at 49.53m.

Women's Highlights

Senior Ashleigh Adamson ran a PR time of 12.83 seconds in the 100m to place fifth while sophomore Shannon Wulf also posted a personal-best for seventh (12.93).

Senior Grace Guetschow was the Pioneers top finisher in the 200m, running a 26.89 for fourth. In the 400m, sophomore Margaret Rusch took second at 1:00.67.

Freshman Leah Digmann posted a personal-best in the 800m at 2:32.66 to finish fourth overall.

Senior Kaitlyn Galgon took third in the 1500m with a time of 4:53.86. Freshman Avery Brown also scored in the event with a PR mark of 5:20.98 for eighth.

Two Pioneers scored in the 100m hurdles, with freshman Delanee Klaas tallying a third-place finish at 16.31 seconds. Junior Kayla Lipsey finished just behind for fourth at 16.96 seconds.

UW-Platteville's 4x400 relay team of Rusch, sophomore Brynlee Nelson, Adamson, and Galgon won the event with a time of 4:03.28.

Freshman Ella Mackiewicz placed second in the high jump and improved upon her jump from a week ago with a mark of 1.58m. Junior Alexis Healey took fourth in the long jump at 5.09m while Nelson came in sixth at 5.02m.

Three Pioneers scored in the triple jump, led by freshman Malina Koepp who placed second with a jump of 10.88m. Senior Kelli Schneider came in third at 10.67m while sophomore Lizzie Andrews was fifth at 10.61m.

Sophomore Brenna Noon recorded a pair of PRs on the day in the discus (37.05m) and hammer throw (34.71m). Her best finish came in the shot put at 13.39m for second place. Senior Paulina Wienke recorded a pair of third-place finishes in the shot put at 11.86m and hammer at 47.68m. Freshman Samantha Klaan was the Pioneers top finisher in the discus at 38.01m for sixth.

 

The Pioneers will host the UW-Platteville Invitational next weekend. Day one of the meet begins on Friday at 5 p.m. while Saturday will begin at 11 a.m.
