Pioneers Prep For WIAC Championship at Whitewater Alternative Friday

WHITEWATER, Wis. – In the final meet before next week's WIAC Outdoor Championships, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams competed at the UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative meet on Friday afternoon.

Men's Highlights

Senior Cole Stugelmeyer won the 110m hurdles, running 14.86 seconds. It's the third time during the outdoor season that Stugelmeyer has won the event.

Junior Joey Madsen won the 3000m steeplechase, setting a new PR at 9:42.14.

In the jumps, junior Daniel Inyang won the high jump at 1.90m while freshman Gavin Ralph placed second at 1.85m. Sophomore Julian Samuels won the long jump at 6.86m while junior Weston Pink was the Pioneers top finisher in the triple jump at 13.41m.

Senior Ben Veverka recorded a new personal best in the discus throw, posting a mark of 53.22m for second. Freshman McKade Jelinek placed fourth at 50.86m while senior Justin Eichler came in fifth at 48.18m. Eichler tallied a runner-up finish in the hammer throw behind a toss of 57.23m.

Freshman Parker Douglas took fourth in the javelin with a throw of 49.20m. Freshman Gunner Katzenmeyer placed fourth in the pole vault at 3.98m.

In the 1500m, freshman Caden Schneider ran a PR and posted the Pioneers top time in the event the season with his fourth-place finish at 3:59.17. Sophomore Elijah Wade was close behind and also set a new PR at 4:00.56 to finish sixth.

Junior Xavier Lasee posted a personal best in the 800m, taking fourth in the event with a time of 1:56.06.

Sophomores Korbin Eilser (15:55.64), Carson Kester (16:18.37), and Nolan Baumhardt (16:18.78) all finished inside the top eight in the 5000m, taking fourth, sixth, and seventh, respectively.

Freshman Evan Graves set a new PR in the 400m at 50.99, which was good for eighth at the meet.

Women's Highlights

Two Pioneers scored in the 5000m, led by junior Hannah Fliss who won the event with a time of 19:26.50. Junior Lydia Oakleaf came in fifth, posting a time of 21:20.47.

Senior Kelli Schneider was the runner-up in the triple jump at 10.88m, which tied the UW-Platteville outdoor season-best.

Freshman Ella Mackiewicz leapt to a mark of 1.53m in the high jump, which was good for second overall. Senior Grace Elvert also finished in the top eight in the event at 1.48m.

Junior Kayla Lipsey ran a new personal best in the 400m hurdles, shaving over a second off her prior PR to finish fourth at 1:11.71.

In the hammer throw, senior Paulina Wienke placed fifth as she recorded a toss of 48.40m. Sophomore Brenna Noon took fourth in the shot put with a throw of 13.76m.

Freshman Avery Brown competed in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing fourth at 12:44.35. Junior Natalie Kreier placed ninth in her first 1500m behind a time of 5:08.06.

 

The Pioneers will compete at the WIAC Conference Championships next Friday and Saturday in Whitewater. Friday's events begin at 1 p.m. while Saturday's start at 10:30 a.m.
