Pioneers Wrap Up Day One at Meet of Champions

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams competed at day one of the Meet of Champions hosted by Augustana (Ill.) on Friday in Rock Island Ill.

Men's Highlights

Senior Ben Veverka set a new personal-best in the discus, throwing 52.93m to win the event. Senior Justin Eichler also posted a new career mark in the discus at 51.32m, while freshman McKade Jelinek finished in fourth with a throw of 51.04m.

Freshman Parker Douglas won the javelin with a personal best of 46.87m while sophomore Sam LaPean came in second with a PR of 44.38m. Junior Daniel Inyang placed second in the high jump, reaching 1.97m.

Sophomore Jakob Eggen ran a new Pioneers season best in the 10000m, finishing third overall with a time of 32:15.93.

Senior Cole Stugelmeyer took sixth in the 110m hurdles, recording a time of 15.18 seconds. Freshman Jackson Christenson posted a new PR in the 400m hurdles at 1:00.87 for 12th overall.

In the 400m, sophomore Zach Zenner tallied a time of 49.93 seconds to finish seventh in the event.

Two Pioneers finished in the top eight in the 3000m steeplechase, led by a seventh-place finish by junior Joey Madsen at 9:55.09. Junior Davin Dahl finished right behind at 10:04.16 for eighth.

The 4x400 relay team of Spencer Vanek, Alex Geissler, Evan Graves, and Zach Zenner finished second overall with a time of 3:22.86. The time is UW-Platteville's best this season.

On day one of the decathlon, sophomore Dale Yerges sits in sixth place with 2746 points. His highest finish so far was fourth in the 400m at 53.21 and he also place fourth in both the 100m (11.55 seconds) and shot put (10.05m).

Women's Highlights

Sophomore Brynlee Nelson ran the 400m for the first time in her Pioneers career and finished seventh at 1:00.92. She also posted the Pioneers top long jump of the outdoor season at 5.38m to finish fifth in the event.

Freshman Ella Mackiewicz scored in the high jump, posting a mark of 1.52m for seventh. Senior Grace Elvert also jumped 1.52m for 10th.

Sophomore Brenna Noon came in fourth in the shot put, reaching a mark of 13.66m.

Senior Kelli Schneider tallied a fourth-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 10.82m.

Junior Lydia Oakleaf competed in the 10000m run, the final event of day one, and finished third with a time of 43:58.69.

In the 1500m, senior Kaitlyn Galgon finished just shy of setting a new PR at 4:54.43 to place eighth.

Freshman Avery Brown ran the first 3000m steeplechase of the season, taking 12th with a time of 12:39.67.

Junior Kayla Lipsey competed in the heptathlon for UW-Platteville and currently is in fourth at 2080 points with three events remaining. Lipsey recorded a third-place finish in the 200m (27.53 seconds) and fourth-place finish in the 100m hurdles (16.90 seconds) to highlights the first day.

The Pioneers will compete of day two of the meet tomorrow with the rest of the decathlon and events starting at 10 a.m. as well as the men's and women's hammer throw at 11 a.m.
