Pioneers Compete At Day One Of WIAC Championships

MENOMONIE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams competed in the opening day of the WIAC Championships hosted by UW-Stout on Friday afternoon inside the Sports & Fitness Center.

The Pioneers will head to day two seventh on the men's side with 11 points and eighth on the women's with five points. UW-La Crosse currently ranks first in both men's and women's following the first day of action.

Men's Highlights

Senior Cole Stugelmeyer qualified for tomorrow's finals in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.45 seconds in the prelims. Junior Jason Gleichauf finished 11th in the same event, just missing a personal-best with a time of 8.57 seconds.

Sophomore Spencer Vanek ran a personal-best 49.41 in the 400m to place fourth and score five points for the Pioneers.

UW-Platteville's distance medley team of junior Xavier Lasee, senior Jason Voelker, freshman Caden Schneider, and freshman Alexander Geissler took sixth with a season-best time of 10:29.05.

Senior Justin Eichler scored in the shot put, recording a mark of 14.87m to finish sixth in the event.

Women's Highlights

Sophomore Brenna Noon took fifth in the shot put, tossing a mark of 13.15m on her fifth throw to score four points for UW-Platteville.

Senior Kaitlyn Galgon ran a lifetime best to score in the mile for the Pioneers, posting a time of 5:07.56 to place eighth in the event.

Freshman Savannah Morgan ran a sub-eight second time in the 60m for the first time in her career, as she finished 12th with a time of 7.98.

 

Day two of the conference championships continue tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. with the conclusion of the men's heptathlon and the start of the women's pentathlon. Field events will begin at 11 a.m. will the remainder of the running events starting at 1:40 p.m.
