DUBUQUE, Iowa – In the final meet before the conference championships, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams competed at the Sol Butler Classic hosted by the University of Dubuque on Friday evening. The Pioneers women's team finished second with 114 points, while the men also recorded a second-place finish with 109.5 points.
Women's Highlights
For the fourth week in a row, freshman Savannah Morgan improved upon her personal best in the 60m with a time of 8.03 seconds, which was good for second in the event.
Freshman Delanee Klaas scored in the 60m hurdles, running a time of 9.90 seconds to place third in the event. In the 400m, freshman Leah Digmann (1:07.25) and sophomore Lindsey Barnes (1:07.33) placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Senior Ashleigh Adamson took sixth in the 200m, posting a time of 27:46.
Sophomores Caitlin Gorge (11:59.16) and Lydia Oakleaf (12:01.01) finished back-to-back in the 3000m for the Pioneers. Gorge placed fifth, while Oakleaf set a PR while placing sixth.
In the throws events, senior Paulina Wienke finished second in the weight throw with a toss of 15.69m. Sophomore Brenna Noon was fourth in the event, recording a throw of 14.33m, while also finishing second in the shot put at 13.44m.
Junior Alexis Healey was third in the long jump at 5.15m, while freshman Malina Koepp set a new personal best in the triple jump at 10.90m for second. Junior Autumn Montgomery tallied a season-best in the pole vault at 3.15m to record a third-place finish.
Men's Highlights
Sophomore Zach Zenner took third in the 400m, running a time of 49.84. Junior Xavier Lasee posted a PR in the 800m, posting a time of 1:59.05 to place fourth in the event. Lasee recorded a second personal best on the day in the mile with an eighth-place finish at 4:28.86. Senior Jason Voelker was the Pioneers top finisher in the mile with a time of 4:25.95, a personal best.
In the 3000m, junior Caleb Christiansen and sophomore Korbin Eisler each set PRs. Christiansen finished second with a time of 8:46.91, while Eisler ran a 9:05.69 to place sixth.
The Pioneers ran well in the 60m hurdles, with senior Cole Stugelmeyer the top finisher with a second-place mark behind a PR time of 8.37 seconds. Junior Jason Gleichauf also set a new personal top time, finishing just behind Stugelmeyer for third at 8.54 seconds, while sophomore Dale Yerges took fifth at 9.12 seconds.
Junior Daniel Inyang won the high jump for the third time this season, posting a leap to 2.00m to tie his previous personal best. Senior Owen Miller tallied a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a season-best 6.33m.
Senior Justin Eichler set a new personal best in the weight throw with a throw of 18.29m to win the event. The throw moves him to third all-time on the program list. Eichler also placed fourth in the shot put at 14.68m. Senior Ben Veverka scored in both throws events as well, finishing fourth in the weight throw (17.23m) and sixth in the shot put (14.43), while sophomore Andrew Cunningham was fifth in the weight throw at 15.95m.
The Pioneers will compete at the WIAC Conference Championships next Friday and Saturday hosted by UW-Stout in Menomonie, Wisconsin. Friday's events will begin at 11:30 a.m. with Saturday's kicking off at 10 a.m.
