Pioneers Compete At Spartan Invitational Saturday

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams competed at the Spartan Invitational hosted by the University of Dubuque on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers women's team finished third of nine teams with 73 points, while the men took second with 111 points.

Women's Highlights

The Pioneers throws duo of sophomore Brenna Noon and senior Paulina Wienke had a great afternoon, with both setting new personal records. Noon won the shot put at 13.43-meters, then set a personal-best of 13.48-meters in the weight throw for seventh. Wienke posted PR's in both events, finishing third in both the shot put (12.38-meters) and weight throw (16.43-meters).

Senior Ashleigh Adamson ran well in two events, including setting a new personal-best in the 200-meter with a time of 27.40 seconds to place fourth. She also tallied a 15th-place finish in the 60-meter by tying her PR time of 8.32 seconds.

All five members of the women's 3000-meter run posted PR's, with junior Natalie Kreier finishing fifth at 11:17.30. Sophomore Hannah Fliss finished one spot behind at 11:29.57, while freshman Angela Meiners (12:01.57) and sophomore Lydia Oakleaf (12:10.66) were ninth and tenth, respectively.

Junior Kayla Lipsey advanced to the 60-meter hurdles finals by posting a time of 9.73 seconds in the preliminaries. She then ran a 9.89 in the finals to finish third in the event.

In other field events, senior Grace Elvert finished third in the high jump by leaping 1.48m while junior Autumn Montgomery took sixth in the pole vault with a mark of 3.00m. Sophomore Shannon Wulf recorded a fifth-place finish in the long jump at 4.81m.

Three Pioneers scored in the triple jump, with senior Kelli Schneider leading the way with a 10.57m jump to finish third. Freshman Malina Koepp improved upon her mark from a week ago to post a personal-best of 10.39m for fifth, while sophomore Lizzie Andrews was sixth at 10.32m.

Men's Highlights

The men's 800-meter race saw three Pioneers score, including senior Tyler Doering who placed second with a personal-best time of 1:59.61. Senior Jason Voelker finished right behind for third with a PR of 1:59.70 while senior Zach Flitsch took eighth at 2:03.60.

Freshman Caden Schneider put together a fantastic run in the 3000-meter, as he finished second with a time of 8:44.93. Junior Caleb Christiansen placed fourth in the event at 8:48.43, while senior Troy Humpal (8:50.84) and sophomore Joey Madsen (8:56.31) crossed the line for fifth and sixth, respectively.

In the 60-meter hurdles, senior Cole Stugelmeyer placed third by running a time of 8.64 seconds in the finals.

Junior Daniel Inyang won the high jump at 1.93m, while senior Weston Pink won the triple jump with a strong series of jumps including a mark of 13.83m on his final attempt.

Senior Justin Eichler had a great day in the throws, setting new personal-bests in both events. He won the weight throw with a toss of 17.95m which will place him inside the top 10 in DIII. Eichler also finished second in the shot put at 15.55m. Senior Ben Veverka took third in the shot put (14.54m) and fifth in the weight throw (16.40m), while sophomore Andrew Cunningham placed sixth in the weight throw at 14.88m.

The Pioneers compete at the two-day Wartburg Select in Waverly, Iowa, next Friday and Saturday.
