Men's Track Sends Five To Aurora Grand Prix Friday

CHICAGO, Ill. – Five members of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's track and field team competed at the Aurora Grand Prix on Friday afternoon on the Gately Indoor Track in Chicago.

Four Pioneers ran in the 400-meter, led by sophomore Spencer Vanek, who scored with a seventh-place finish at 49.71 seconds. Sophomore Zach Zenner took 15th with a mark of 50.61 seconds while freshman Alex Geissler (51.81) and sophomore Dylan Miller (52.21) finished 21st and 23rd, respectively.

Sophomore Derrick Turner ran in a pair of sprints at the meet, including a strong time of 22.92 seconds in the 200-meter to finish 16th. He also placed 11th in the 60-meter with a time of 7.14 seconds.

The Pioneers 4x400 meter relay team of Vanek, Geissler, Miller, and Zenner ended the day well with a third-place finish at a time of 3:24.48. Miller posted a strong split of 50.7 seconds and Zenner anchored the event with an impressive 50.04 split.

A couple members of the women's track and field team will compete on the second day of the Aurora Grand Prix tomorrow at 11 a.m. while the rest of the team heads to Dubuque for the Spartan Invitational at 10 a.m.
