OSHKOSH, Wis. – The No. 14 nationally ranked University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team earned a 36-6 victory at UW-Oshkosh Thursday night in the Kolf Sports Center. With the conference win, the Pioneers improve to 7-5 overall and 2-1 in the WIAC.
The Titans were first on the board with a win in the opening 125-pound bout with Luc Valdez winning by 10-3 decision over sophomore Nolan McKittrick.
The early 3-0 advantage would be the only lead of the night for UW-Oshkosh as UW-Platteville responded with a tech fall and back-to-back pins. Senior and No. 2 ranked Zach Thompson defeated Denis Murphy at 133 pounds by technical fall (22-7, 6:36). Freshman Kyler Neuberger defeated Elijah Sanchez by fall (4:30) at 141 pounds and senior Brock Parker's win by fall (2:51) over Luke Moczynski at 149 pounds extended the Pioneers' lead to 17-3.
Freshman Aiden Brosinski won by major decision (13-3) over Cody Welker at 157 pounds and a pair of decisions for the Pioneers by junior Coy Ruess (8-4) and Justin Warmowski (7-5) built the lead to 27-3.
With Ruess' win already securing a dual victory for the Pioneers, freshman Kasey Ross pinned Dakota Treleven (3:59) in the 184-pound bout to make it 33 unanswered points for UW-Platteville.
No. 5 ranked Beau Yineman snapped the Pioneers streak at 197 pounds with the Titan defeating No. 15 ranked sophomore Tyler Hannah by a 10-3 decision.
Senior and No. 10 ranked Brett Schoenherr finished the night strong with a win by 5-1 decision over Guyon Cyprian in the 285-pound match.
The Pioneers will return to action Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Cornell Matman Invite in Mt. Vernon, Iowa.
