Pioneers take sixth at WIAC Championship, Ash named All-Sportsmanship

REEDSBURG, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's golf team finished sixth of eight teams at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship (presented by Culver's) after 54 holes at the Reedsburg Country Club.

The order of the teams remained the same after the first round to the end of the day Sunday after three days of golf. The Pioneers finished round three with 349 stokes for a three-round total of 1,053 strokes tallying 349 on Friday and 355 strokes on Saturday. UW-Whitewater claimed the title with a three-round total of 925 strokes followed by UW-La Crosse (963), UW-Stout (1,021), UW-Eau Claire (1,026) and UW-Stevens Point (1,028).  Trailing the Pioneers were UW-Oshkosh (1,055), UW-River Falls (1,094). Kristin Bowe of UW-Whitewater finished first overall with three-day total of 223 strokes (71,73,79).

Junior Markie Ash paced the Pioneers and finished 13th overall with rounds of 81, 82, and 84 for a three-round total of 247 strokes after 54-holes. Ash was also named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team as part of the Championship award presentation. Senior Cortney Olson finished second for the pioneers and tied 23rd overall with rounds of 87, 90, and 86 for a three-round total of 263. Junior Emily Veenhuis combined 90, 92, and 85 for a total of 267 strokes for 29th  place overall. Freshman Josie Alm (91, 91, 84) finished with 276 strokes while sophomore Kate Wright (105, 107, 103) finished out the Pioneers competing five golfers with a three-round score of 315 strokes.
