JANESVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's golf team shaved 16 strokes off its Friday round to move up one spot and secure a ninth place finish out of the 13 competing teams at the UW-Whitewater Spring Invite. Overall, the Pioneers combined 362 strokes on Friday and 348 strokes on Saturday for a 710 strokes total after 36 holes at the Riverside Golf Course.
Junior Markie Ash once again paced the Pioneers and tied for 12th overall with a two-day total of 165 strokes. Ash tallied 86 strokes in round one and bettered her next round by seven for 79 strokes on Saturday.
Following suit, Ash's three teammates each lowered their second-round scores from Friday's round. Junior Emily Veenhuis finished tied for 35th overall with a two-day total of 174 strokes (88, 86). Senior Cortney Olson tallied 177 strokes (90, 87) and freshman Elizabeth Roodhouse finished with 194 strokes (98, 96).
Host UW-Whitewater took the title with a two-day total of 634 strokes while Carthage College (639 strokes) and the University of Dubuque (662 strokes) rounded out the top three finishing teams.
The Pioneers will return to action next Saturday, April 24 when they travel back to Riverside Golf Course for the UW-Whitewater Spring Fling.
