Pioneers take fourth place at Marian University Invite

Fond du Lac, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's golf team returned to competition Saturday for the first time since the fall 2019 season. The Pioneers' first event back on the green took place at Whispering Springs Golf Club for the Marian University Invite.

After one round on Saturday, the Pioneers finished fourth with 387 strokes as a team. UW-Oshkosh led the pack of seven teams with a day total of 359 strokes. Lake Forest College (360 strokes) and UW-Stevens Point (364 strokes) finished ahead of UW-Platteville while St. Norbert (390 strokes), Marian University (409 strokes), and Concordia Wisconsin (410 strokes) rounded out the day's team scores.

Junior Markie Ash paced the Pioneers and finished the day 6-of-39 golfers with 88 strokes. Lake Forest's Chloe Morrissey finished the round in first with 72 strokes.

Senior Cortney Olson finish the day with 95 strokes and 16 overall. Junior Emily Veenhuis tallied 97 strokes while sophomore Kate Wright and freshman Sophia Christianson each finished with 107 strokes to round out the five Pioneer golfers.

The Pioneers will return to action on Friday April 16 when they travel to UW-Whitewater for the two-day UW-Whitewater Spring Invite at Riverside Golf Course in Janesville, Wis.
