PLATTEVILLE, Wis. —The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team traveled to River Falls, Wisconsin to take on the UW-River Falls Falcons in doubleheader action on Saturday, where the Pioneers fell 11-0 and 10-5. The second game would be the last for the Pioneers in the 2016 season, where they finished 4-26 overall and 1-13 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
After a first-game shutout, the Pioneers fired back in the second and third innings of the second game after an early 3-0 Falcon lead to tie the game 3-3 heading into the fourth.
After a scoreless fourth, the Falcons added two more to their total to take the 5-3 lead before the Pioneers responded with two of their own to tie the game 5-5 in the top of the sixth after a senior
Carley Rote single to left field brought in one run, the next coming off a sac fly out to right field by junior
Thianna Wegner.
The Falcons logged a huge sixth inning, racking up five more runs off a homerun and a double to give them the 10-5 advantage and win over the Pioneers.
Overall this season, freshman
Emily Woodford logged the most hits with 25 as
Carley Rote added the most doubles with eight and most runs scored with 17. Senior pitcher
Jess Butzen totaled 64 strikeouts on the season.
