The UW-Platteville women's golf team saved its best for
last.
The Pioneers matched their season-best with a 344 score Sunday,
finishing fifth in the 54-hole Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference championships at Northern Bay Golf Resort & Marina
in Arkdale, Wis
UWP had a 361 on Friday and 372 Saturday before shaving the
score down to 344 Sunday.
Junior Tricia Pawelski had the second-best round for a Pioneer
ever at the WIAC championships, shooting a 77 Sunday. After
shooting 95 and 94 the first two days, Pawelski's hot Sunday lifted
her to 20th place overall. Only Ahna Hendrickson, with a 73 in
2005, has ever done better in the WIAC championships.
Freshman Kellsey Welter was right behind Pawelski for the
weekend, finishing 21st with a 267, with two of her three rounds
under 90. Sophomore Kerrie Liske shot a career-best 88 Sunday and
finished in 28th with a 275 total.
Freshmen Kelsey Lieving (276) was 32nd, Ellyn Subak (292) 37th,
and Helen Wilson (293) 39th for Coach Peter Reif's crew.
UW-Eau Claire won its record sixth WIAC championship.
