Pioneers go 3-1 in weekend matches, Jones and Johnson named all-tournament

The UW-Platteville volleyball team won its final three matches to go 3-1 at the MSOE Invitational.

The Pioneers split their matches Friday night when they lost to Benedictine 26-24, 28-26, 23-25, 25-12 and beat Alverno 25-7, 25-16, 25-16. On Saturday, UW-Platteville beat Caltech 22-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-19 and MSOE 25-20, 25-22, 25-19.

The Pioneers improve to 5-4 after their performance in Milwaukee.

In the loss to Benedictine, Hailey Youngren led the attack with 10 kills and a .375 hitting percentage.

In the win over Alverno, CJ Johnson had nine kills on just 15 attacks. Olivia Kudronowicz led the team with 10 kills.

Three Pioneers tallied double digit kils against Caltech including Johnson with 15, Kudronowicz with 12 and Paige Mertens with 10.

In their final match of the weekend against MSOE, Grace Austin led the team with 22 digs. Johnson filled the stat sheet with 11 kills, 16 assists and 15 digs. Lauren Murphy led the team with 17 assists.

Katie Jones and CJ Johnson were named to the all-tournament team.

The Pioneers host the UW-Platteville Invitational this weekend. UW-Platteville plays Coe Friday night at 6 pm. On, Saturday the team faces North Park at 11 am and Waldorf at 1 pm.
